Tobias Froberg Continues to Turn Heads

The Swedish journalist turned folk musician par excellence is back with his intriguing new album Turn Heads.  Froberg, who I will lovingly refer to as ToFro (pronounced toe-fro) from now on, has put together an achingly sweet collection of dually rousing and moody numbers for this album.  While the folk and rock influences are certainly obvious, there are also subtle gospel-tinged aspects to these songs (”Take It Easy”).  Regardless of his approach, ToFro always manages to convey a generally satisfying optimism in his music–that is no easy feat!

You’ve already had a chance to listen to the duo “Just Behind a Brickwall” with Peter Moren, but there’s certainly more that’s also worth your time.  “You Are” is a piano-heavy ditty that illustrates everything that is so appealing about ToFro–intriguing hooks, uncannily soothing vocals, and singability.  You’ll certainly have a hard time trying to contain yourself from not singing along with the great ToFro!  “Slipping Under the Radar” is a more Swedish twee-pop rock tune that is relatively typical of what is great (and what is so monotonous) about Swedish music.  The alliteration of “Delicate Dance of Ghosts” translates well with the wonderful acoustic guitar arrangement at its back.  Then the horns come in, and it’s total Scandinavian bliss.

Go and get yourself a copy of Turn Heads.

Listen to “You Are” (4.9/5)

Listen to “Take It Easy” (4.6/5)

Listen to “What Goes Around (Justin Timberlake Cover)” (5/5)

Two Years!

I honestly cannot believe it, but it has been exactly two years since I first started this humble blog. While I would love to reminisce and wax nostalgic on the good ol’ blogger days of Carl Sandburg Visits Me In A Dream, I can only celebrate the present!

Though albums have been praised and trashed, glorified and bashed, I hope you all know that it is my love for music that makes it all worth it in the end! I hope that my faithful and hype-crazed readers agree as well.

With that in mind, I wanted to share with you a few two-themed songs:

Coldplay - 2000 Miles (4.8/5 )

Jamie Scott and the Town - Two Men (4.9/5 )

The 1900s - Two Ways (4.7/5 )

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals - 2:22 (4.5/5 )

Here’s to another year!
